Things I learned today…
There is PLENTY of room in the world for people who are unapologetically real. And frankly, I think the world is starving for it.
Happy, happy, motivational, inspirational, celebrational whatever is all fine and dandy, but some people want to be assured that they aren’t the only ones who are on the struggle bus. Hell, some of us love hearing that we aren’t the only ones that the struggle bus hasn’t hit head on, backed over, and smushed again. Misery loves company, I guess, but even moreso people like feeling that they aren’t the only ones who don’t have their shit together.
If you didn’t see my blog post this morning, go find it. It’s about giving yourself permission to do what you need to do in your life. Huge stuff. Learn this lesson ASAP. Don’t wait until you’re 46 like me.
Speaking of not feeling like the Lone Ranger with having your shit together…know this…it might be important to us to feel a kinship with others who are struggling so we are assured we aren’t the only ones. But it’s MORE important to only spend a moment there then get busy sourcing what’s making us a hot mess in the first place…then trying to fix it. Don’t wallow in your hot messness long. It can become a crutch, and nobody likes whiners. There, I said it.
This world, though…it’s telling us how to be, what to like, how to respond, what to applaud, what to comdemn, how to act, what to get, who to love…NO THANK YOU! I think that’s why people want “real”, so do it. If you don’t already know, figure out who you REALLY are and be her. Or him. Or they. Or whatever. Just do you without fear or the desire to be petted for it. Do. You. Real.
Today was a day. I put out a many a fire and settled a lot of things. I’ll go to bed tonight plenty tired and with a clean heart. I love that last part.
I love what I do. I love kids and families. I love teaching. I love seeing eyes light up.
That’s all. We learn every day, don’t we?
