Embrace doing nothing.

Overachievers, Workaholics, and People Pleasers, listen to me…

You are NOT doing nothing.

This weird week between Christmas and New Year’s Day, know that if you use your downtime to sleep, read, watch TV, work a crossword puzzle, sew, eat cheese, sit and stare out the window, whatever, you ARE doing something.

You are resting. You’re spending your time the way you want to spend it. You are recovering. You’re restoring your soul. You’ll return to the mouse wheel soon, and your preparing your heart and mind for it.

THAT is something, and THAT is important.

Dismiss the feelings of guilt, and have no shame. Explain yourself to no one. Resist the urge to be defensive. It’s ok to do less.

The world will keep turning, Girlfriend. People will still love you. You will not lose your spark. No child will starve. No husband will leave. Nobody will be disappointed in you or find you a failure.

Rest. Sit in that chair. Get lost in that book. Sip that mimosa. Binge watch that show. Do “nothing” proudly. And don’t let anybody constantly interrupt you, make you feel bad, or rope you into doing “something”. You ARE doing something.

You’re healing. You’re filing your cup.

Embrace doing nothing. It’s ok.
