So the test results…
The abdominal CT yielded nothing alarming, thankfully. I asked for it, because I wanted to rule out any abscesses or other things that might have been causing me the pain I was having.
When I attempted to stand yesterday, the pain was great. I gasped and knew something must be wrong. I did make it to my feet and around the bed to a chair. But man! It was rough. Took a few hours, legs packed in ice, to recover.
I knew something must be bad, because the previous day I had walked so well. I immediately asked for the ultrasound to check for blood clots. I was scared.
Surely enough… blood clots were forming in the right knee/leg. Blood clots are mean and can kick rocks, let me tell ya!
This afternoon, I was quickly pulled into Interventional Radiology for an IVC filter.
An IVC filter looks like an umbrella without the fabric kind of turned backwards. It acts as a filter to catch any blood clots as they attempt to travel to the lungs or to the brain. Not what we want!
Once placed via a flexible catheter into the inferior vena cava vein, the filter pops open with tension and goes to work. Blood flows, but the filter catches clots. Mine was placed through my neck.
The whole procedure took about half an hour and is in NO WAY fun. (0/10, Do Not Recommend)
But hey, I made it around yet another little gremlin. I got to see 2 of my besties today. And my diet got upgraded to actual food. (They bring it chopped into tiny pieces!)
So it was a good day, but very taxing.
I have more to tell you about what’s next and what our hopes are. Don’t miss it. In the meantime, please pray for poop. Yep, poop.
It’s hard to maintain the dexterity to type, so I have to go rest. Plus, I need to get some clarity on a few things first. I’ll tell you more tomorrow!
