Still not sure how we landed here at this place where our “little girl” is almost 16. 💜 She just got back from a fun, busy, emotional week of Super Summer, a church event at Mississippi College. I love listening to her stories, hearing her laugh, and watching her eyes.
Do you guys marvel at your kids sometimes? Do you wonder what in the world you did to be blessed with having created a new human with a real soul?
Do you wonder how she’ll ever make it in this old world? Do you think about how she’ll maintain her beautiful, precious uniqueness yet try to navigate fitting in, resist conforming, and preserve her integrity?
Do you marvel at how astute and wise she is already? Then do you wonder why anybody could ever see her as incapable, unteachable, or unlovable?
Y’all, our kids are smart and strong. They have seen more, heard more, and experienced more than we had by age 15.
They are not us. They are not our dream, our plans, or our ideal. They are their own person, separate from us, eager to learn, and desperate to find their own way.
When we look at them and marvel… when we wonder…let’s remember that they are whole people, miraculous creations, full of hope and potential. They will laugh and cry, learn and forget, create and destroy, succeed and fail.
And you know, let’s remember all that when we look at other people’s kids, too.
