My husband has always dreamed of having bees. Yep…like beekeeping…an apiary. He has talked about it for 25 years.
Friday, I recorded him and our girl releasing about 30,000 bees into the hives he worked to order, stock, and build. I’ve watched him plan it for weeks, place online orders, stack up supplies, and gather all the parts and pieces.
You know what’s the most cool about it? Two things…
First, he did it with our girl. THIS is what learning at home (we are homeschoolers) is all about. He bought them both bee suits, included her in the process of building the hives, and put her right in the middle of the action with complete trust in her. What a moment for a daddy and a daughter! My heart was full.
Next, we worked on one of HIS dreams. He has always made my dreams a priority and supported the kids’ dreams, and he never really made much effort to realize any of his own. I so enjoyed watching him read books, learn, research, and order. I loved seeing the boxes on the porch with his name on them. It was a joy to see him fiddling with the bees, taking so much care, and tending it all so precisely. He even turned to me once and said, “I hope I know enough to keep them alive.”
Oh, you do. You do.
God bless my husband who back-burners himself for us. And God bless him for chasing his bee dream and making it happen finally. I’m so proud of him and for him.
