Things I learned today…
I read this morning that in the 1950’s, the world was “hyper-localized”, which makes total sense, right? You got your gas (pumped for you) at the corner. You knew the grocer, and he owned the store. Your neighbor was the area dentist. The kids you knew were the ones in your class and in the neighborhood.
There was no internet, of course. You got info about the world through very limited news reels, books at the library, newspapers, and teachers. TV and radio were not terribly far-reaching either, and it wasn’t on demand. You had to wait. You had to seek out info. You had to be interested. You had to ask. You had to read. Information was not hitting you in the face and filling your ears all the time, 24 hours a day.
So what did people do in the meantime? People were busy doing whatever they do – working, rocking babies, filling prescriptions, serving coffee, hammering nails, walking dogs. They gossiped, asked around, checked on, and went to see. I’m not sure “hyperlocalized” was a bad thing. Right now, we have the opposite of that, and it makes me tired.

I wonder if the impact on humans of constant information is a psychological phenomena that’s being studied?
Speaking of psychological phenomena, and switching gears just a little, I can’t keep a white board on my refrigerator. I had one…and it’s still there…but it’s been commandeered. But instead of our weekly schedule and what’s planned for dinner every night, I get shenanigans.
Few things make my heart as full as hearing that my friends are proud of me. That’s so nice.
Y’all, nobody ever answered the question, “How did you hurt yourself?” with “Well, I was working a puzzle…”. But let me tell you the life stage I’m at now. I hurt my knee last night. Go ahead, ask me how I hurt my knee. Yep…I was working a puzzle…
I mean, how do you hurt yourself while working a puzzle? I don’t know, but I did it. *jurassic eye roll*
Blake went out to work and stopped back by the house on his way somewhere and brought donuts. And we had tamales, rice, and beans, queso and guacamole for dinner. So I would pretty much call today a homerun.
That’s all. We learn every day, don’t we?
