Things I learned today…
I haven’t hand washed anything in a hundred years, and I sure don’t buy anything that has to be hand washed. Today, I had to hand wash a little sweater. Thanks, Stitch Fix.
So all of a sudden, we have a gnat infestation in the kitchen…like little fruit flies. They are everywhere. The kitchen is CLEAN. What gives?
Sometimes I second guess my TILT’s and my blogging (I mean, I did just talk about freaking gnats.). I’m new, so I think that’s part of it. I have no idea what I’m doing, but I’ll keep reading and learning and trying. Thanks to the handful of people who read, like, and follow. And all of you who actually find it valuable enough to share are the real MVP’s. I hope my musings, rants, and lessons are relatable, funny, and interesting enough to catch hold. If not, I’ll probably do it anyway, so there’s that.
I have learned this…there are a lot of goofy, pointless, strange blogs out there. Mine certainly won’t be the worst. (Uh, I don’t think. But again…gnats.)
I had an epiphany today, and you might have seen my blog post about it. It’s not my responsibility to make people happy. Let me say it again…I am not responsible for whether another person is happy. That sounds pretty cool. I’ve been saying it over and over today. I am realizing that there are a lot of things I’m not responsible for, and it’s glorious. I have been tumbling through everyday thinking I was responsible for way more than I am.

I could tell my kids that I’m sorry for getting some things wrong, but what’s done is done. I hope my kids will always understand that I was doing the best I could and always seeking to improve. I’m learning lessons at 45 that would have been real damn nice to have learned earlier so as not to imprint negatively on my kids, but here we are. That’s some real food for thought. I don’t think I can dwell on it. I just have to talk to them and do better.
By the way, I find it supremely important to apologize to your kids when you’ve gotten it wrong.
Does Cabernet Sauvignon pair well with white beans and cornbread? Asking for myself.
That’s all. We learn everyday, don’t we?
If I have any house plants, I get gnats. IDK why or how to prevent it without killing the plants. I do like them (the plants) inside though, bc they really do add that “touch” to the rooms.
I like fried buttered cornbread with my white beans, but even more with my turnip greens, b/c THEN, it soaks up that pot likker & tastes the best. I learned something about the pot likker that I’ll pass on, & you may already know this. I can’t confirm if it’s the truth or not, but it does make sense. Evidently during The Great Depression parents used pot likker in their babies’ bottles to help prevent mental retardation. I believe they said it was the thiamine that children needed & weren’t getting b/c good food/nutrients were so scarce back then. Who knows if that’s right, but I couldn’t confirm or deny from my brief search just now that it IS or is NOT true.
