So here I am, the big preacher of “if you’re scared, do it scared” doing something scared. Yep, I just put out the word that I am starting a new venture, Lavender Lane Creative, in a couple of weeks.

Scary. I won’t tell you I’m not nervous. The possibility of failure always sits in the back of my mind like a little, miniature scowling gargoyle. But I don’t like failure, and I don’t make a practice of it, nor do I particularly care for scowling gargoyles. So here I am, taking a leap and hoping I make this thing work.
All the leg work is done. I find it fascinating that one can take the notion to craft a business out of thin air – from licensure to logo, from tax compliance to accounting, it’s done. Lavender Lane Creative is official and ready to make money.
I really hope, though, that it makes JOY. I mean, it WILL make joy. It’s the whole premise of the business. If it makes money, that’s cool, too.
I enjoy being creative so much. The creative process is fun until it’s wrought with challenges. The ideas flow until they don’t. The putting together of something meaningful, a gift or an event, is tedious and time consuming work. But it is so worth it!
Smiles. That little shoulder drop and head tilt accompanied by a meek smile or maybe a happy tear. The elation in the midst of celebration. All those things make every detail worth quibbling over, every hour worth spending, every idea worth chasing. The JOY is everything!
I want to delight people. For every person with whom I share an ounce of joy, the world is made better. I truly believe our hearts, our light, our awareness of how WE affect the world can change it, as cliche as that might sound. Kindness and goodness wins.
I’m nervous, but I’m praying that it takes off. I’m praying it becomes a successful endeavor. I’m praying that I will help people, that my creativity will benefit someone, that I will play a role in bringing joy to my community (and maybe even beyond!). I’m praying for JOY.
If you want to go support it, it’s called Lavender Lane Creative.
What a fun, little seed to plant! I hope it grows…like lavender kudzu!
It’s a great day! (Oh…and in other news, I may have come up with a book premise, but I will have to tell you about that another time!)
