Our Friday Adventure was nearly compromised after my girl’s gym training was moved to Friday morning from Thursday, AND the painter agreed to come look at my project on Friday afternoon. We managed to pull it off, though, making the decision to stay local and just be together as long as we could before we had to be back at the house.

Sushi and hibachi…the priority! We had not been to this place in a while, so it was extra tasty! My fire roll, SPICY, her hibachi steak and shrimp, YUMMY, and she gave me her vegetables (she doesn’t like zucchini).

We left headed to find a produce stand for purple hull peas. The stand was in our town, but it moved, so we took off through the country and found it about ten minutes away. Not only did we get our peas, we got some home-grown okra and fresh peaches. We stopped by a friend’s house and dropped off a watermelon and some hugs.

Oh, the singing! We sang as loudly as we could on the way back home. And the best part…the conversations!

She talks, and I listen. She asks, and I explain. She cries a little, and I console. She dreams out loud, and I encourage. THIS is what a Friday Adventure is made of! THIS is quality time.

Her world is changing so fast, she is confused. At the same time, she is astute and discerning. Her friends are going through their own evolutions, and she wants to be there for them. At the same time, she can hardly bear the weight of her own changes and doesn’t have the bandwidth to engage. Her future is approaching, and she is constantly evaluating her options. Letting go of the past and what she knows is difficult, though.

I would trade nothing for our time. We both marvel at the sights, pointing out random oddities and amusing foolishness. We help each other, open doors, carry heavy things. Best of all, laughing one minute, tearful the next, we ride along and share space. Heart space.

Until next week…
